Stargate Universe Pilot (Season 1 Episode 1):Watch Stargate Universe Cast

Stargate Universe Pilot (Season 1 Episode 1):Watch Stargate Universe Cast – Stargate Universe also known as SG°U premiered on SYFY last night. The military science fiction series star Robert Carlyle,Justin Louis,David Blue and Brian J. Smith and follows a multinational exploration team on board the Ancient spaceship Destiny. Here is a recap:

During an official visit to top secret base Icarus, an attack is made by aliens, forcing the team to evacuate. Before they could evacuate to Earth, Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) dials the ninth chevron, sending them to Destiny, an Ancient starship located billions of lightyears from Earth.

To the fans of the Stargate franchise, our apologies.Who had the bad idea to blend Stargate SG-1,Stargate Infinity,Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe into one big show called Stargate Universe? Note to the writers : there are too many elements and it is too much like a soap opera (Do not feel offended Mr Lou Diamond Phillips ). We are fully aware that the series has a limited budget but that does not explain the lack of originality in the premise nor the lack of intelligence in the characters. They are supposed to be the best and brightest that Earth has to offer. Oh well.
That’s all we have for now on Stargate Universe Pilot.

actually, if you paid attention to the premise of the show you would realize these people were NOT the best and brightest. They were just the crew running the base at the time, they were never meant to go through the gate. That’s the whole point.

who said they were the best and the brightiest.

The 9th ninth chevron project look to have been stuck for a long time. Fact the money masters were there on a inspection, make me suspect that they were considering closing down the project or redrawing funding. After all the senator thought there were better things to spend the money on.
It could also explain why rush was annoyed that they failed to activate the 9th chevron in font of the senator.
They could of been assign to the Icarus base because the best and the brightest were station at more important basis like Atlantis, Area 51 and the SGC. These may just be the rift raft that did not fit in on the more important sites/research projects but still intelligence enough to be handed ninth chevron post an be involve in the stargate program at all.
Only Dr Rush could even be consider the best of the best that earth has and I can understand why someone would post him on a project as far as away from earth as possible but not somewhere valuable like Atlantis, his first project at reverse engineering alien technology lead to blowing up the planet after all.

What a disappointment! The plot was totally disjointed and the constant interruptions (like every 10-11 minutes) for commericals made it even worse. Never got a chance to get interested in characters or what (???) was happening to them.

“They are supposed to be the best and brightest that Earth has to offer.”

Um, no they’re not, you seem to have completely misunderstood the premise of the show.

I was an avid fan of SG-1 and Atlantis. I found the last episode of Atlantis excellent. I am really going to miss that show and cast.

I am trying to keep an open mind for SGU. In all honesty, I found the sex scene uncalled for. One minute he is being told he is in charge, and leaves to take control. Next he’s having sex and being called on the radio for assistance. You would think – as a soldier, he would go directly to the line of duty, not stop off for a quicky. Most people watch StarGate for the science fiction, not for sex.

I think the choice of Jason as the leader is a great choice and it will be interesting to see how the show plays out.

With Atlantis I always thought there was something more – with it being a star ship, and seeing a few more like it in other episodes, on different planets – all thse ships the same had to come from somewhere originally.

Perhaps with SG-U being a lost ship of the Ancients, that the Ancients may have forgotten about when they ascended, perhaps there is an original, Ancient world they had forgotton about as well.

I think you misunderstood the flashbacks. He wasn’t in charge at the time of the sex scene, and certainly wasn’t busy. Heck, that base seemed to be doing nothing. The arrival of the senator are Eli was probably the most exciting thing to happen for a soldier in the apparent 6 months of the project.

That being said, I didn’t like the sex scene at all, myself. Stargate has always stayed away from that sort of cliche stuff in the past. But… this is a new series, and overall, I loved the pilot episode.

As is usually the case when the science in science fiction is involved, what we got was some mumbled nonsense that was to pass as explanation. What was the ninth chevron project all about? Where did they think the ninth chevron would land them? And if on a ship, why did they seem surprised? Someone asked the question why, if ships could go to the places that they left stargates, they would bother leaving stargates? Just use a ship for travel. The answer was quick and unintelligible, which has been typical of previous stargate incarnations. I love science fiction but it seems that you have to be a physicist like Isaac Asimov to have it make sense. And that shouldn’t have to be the case.

Even from the advertising it was clear to me that they wanted to try to make a Stargate in the vein of the recently ended Battlestar Galactica. They are lost and trying to find a home, it’s supposed to be more character oriented like Battlestar, it’s darker like Battlestar, and the sex too. The scientist will probably turn out to be a bit like Baltar, and don’t be surprised if a Battle-star spirituality enters the scene. I predict it will not succeed. I loved Stargate and I loved Battlestar, but I do not want to watch an attempted blending of the two. Hopefully they’ll keep playing re-runs – somewhere.

One more thing – the flashbacks were way too choppy. It became difficult to follow which flashbacks were the before and which were the after. It’s probably nothing a better editor couldn’t fix.

Stargate SG1 & SGA but with the gritt added in bucketloads dirty, dark in atmosphere and setting. Style filmed shaky closeups-like Battlestar Galactica often with people in the way making not a clear shot of people – thats just the style. SG1 is almost sanitsed compared to this. SGU has touch of Star Trek Voyager somewhere long long away trying and hopefully get back to earth as an aim.
some of the last scenes had a hopeful feeling at the send of the episode 2 Air (part2)
so no sex scenes in it Episode 1 started 8pm 6th October Sky1 must have cut them b4 watershed??? The leader Dr Rush – appears to have an aloof sense about him

I agree with a lot of the other comments. The flashbacks were presented in such a way that it was very hard to keep track of what was flashback, and what was “now”. Very disjointed, and if they can’t do a better editing job than this, then they shouldn’t be using flashbacks at all.

This whole ninth chevron thing was excessively lame. In most of the StarGate plots (with the exception of the very first pilot) you used 7 chevrons to gate within the local network – i.e. within the milky way. The eighth chevron was used by Col. O’Neill when he gated to an Asgard home world in a different galaxy. So you’d expect the ninth chevron to do something __REALLY__ spectacular, right? Like maybe gating outside of this galactic cluster altogether, or gating to some higher-dimensional reality where the ascended ancients are fighting some extra-dimensional menace. I mean come on guys – use a little imagination.
