Oprah Sound Of Music Reunion: 45th Anniversary On Winfrey Show – Oprah Winfrey recently had the entire cast of the Sound of Music on her daytime talk show, probably giving the 45th anniversary edition of the film a huge boost in sales.
Julie Andrews, who had the lead role of Maria, was the first cast member to come on stage, joined soon after by Christopher Plummer who played Captain von Trapp. Shortly thereafter, the now-grown von Trapp children came on stage with their co-star parents; Kym Karath played Gretl; Debbie Turner played Marta, Angela Cartwright played Brigitta, Duane Chase was Kurt, Heather Menzies was Louisa, Nicholas Hammond played Friedrich, and Charmain Carr had the role of Liesl.
Andrews discussed the move with Winfrey, saying that the movie was the film that shot her to stardom. “It made my career. It was that big of a movie. We had no idea, really, at the beginning, that it was going to be that huge,” she said. Plummer added that he truly did not think that the film was going to be as big as it was. “The part was not exactly Hamlet. There wasn’t enough humor in it,” he said.
The cast also talked about releasing a book in order to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the film.
