Brian: I hope you read this email. I enjoy your broadcasts and these email stories of wonderful people doing such kind things during these “tough economic times”. But they’ve caused me to wonder WHY did it take America specifically being in THESE “tough economic times” before you all thought of asking listeners to send you these stories of people’s selfless deeds? Many unsung heroes and their inspiring deeds certainly existed in years past, BEFORE America found herself in these “tough economic times”! Also, there is something you and your collegues can do to help daily lift the burden of your listeners during these “tough economic times” … STOP using those annoying catch phrases every few sentences, in every news item reported … using “tough economic times” and other similar phrases not only is annoying and insulting to your listener’s intelligence (we DO understand that the economy is affecting everything in our society and lives) … this barrage of negative economic phrases also has a depressing impact on our minds, hearts and lives! PLEASE give our ears and our spirits a rest, a reprieve from such phrases! Other than that, I enjoy your broadcasts … keep up the good work and please include this suggestion about nixing these economic phrases in your wording of future reports . Barbara Lincoln Killeen, TX

In reference to a comment on your show Wednesday,4/22/09, you talked about “reverse discrimination”. I do believe that discrimination is discrimination. There is no such thing as reverse discrimination.

BRIAN, YOUR NOT-SO-SECRET ADMIRER, BONNIE HUNT, IS REALLY MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN SEVERAL WAYS. BESIDES HER WONDERFUL WIT, SHE IS ALWAYS DOING THINGS TO RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH; SHE HAS DOGS THAT NEED ADOPTING ON EVERY WEEK AND THEY ALL GET HOMES; AND THEN THERE IS THE CONTENT OF HER SHOW…SHE HAS CREATED THE MOST POSITIVE, NON-SNIPPY, NON-VIOLENT SHOW THAT IS ON TV. I TAPE ALL SHOWS WITH COMMERCIALS (INCLUDING YOURS)AND SAVE UP A FEW AT A TIME SO IT FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE A BEST FRIEND IN YOUR HOME FOR THE AFTERNOON. BONNIE HUNT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!! I am glad Richard Engel won the Peabody award. He is a great reporter and I worry about him as I did about David Bloom.
I watch nightly news every night. You are doing a great job taking over for Tom, as he and I are exactly the same age.
Keep up the good work. I AM a Replublican, tho.

Mr. Williams,
Why do you refuse to acknowledge that an intense debate is raging about the reality of anthropogenic global warming? This may be the bigest story out there and you ignore it. What terrible threats have caused the collective media to turn its back?
The rawest investigative reporter could uncover reams of material and hundreds of credible experts presently challenging the concept of AGM. I think it is no more real than the “transparency” we were led to expect.

Very poor and biased coverage, both the 22nd and 23rd. I had to view ABC’s Chicago’s news to get the accurate story. As a recent Detroit Free Press article wrote, unlike Cronkite, current anchors create anxiety instead of truth.

If my letter should be used, I would prefer you do not use my name.
Last week on the unemployment issue, Brian Williams stated the percentages, than said, this does not include those who have fallen off of the roles and just stopped looking for work.
I was horrified. I am 62 and have worked for 35 years. I have exhaused my cash reserves, but I have been looking for work daily and many others like me will continue until they they bury us!

I am by no means a Bible-thumper but I wonder: As religion is not being imposed upon anyone, where is the violation of anyone’s rights not to practice religion? It is not about time that atheists show a little respect for someone else’s opinions and beliefs for a change?

Dear Brian,
Here in New Hanover County (Wilmington, NC)all county employees are required to take 80 hours of furlough (unpaid leave) in order to bring the budget under control; we county employees are willing to accept the responsibility of this action. The State of NC employees are also taking furlough hours. We have heard of many other states implementing similar policies in order to save millions of tax dollars. If I understand it courrectly, Washington received a 2% raise after President Obama reduced the recommended 5%. If Washington employees were required to take 80 hours of furlough, how much money would that save the tax payers? Like I said – we are willing to pull our weight, but would like to see it across the board, or in this case – beginning at the top.
