Nancy O’Dell on ET: Didn’t Plot to Beat Out Lara Spencer

Lara Spencer is the host of The Insider and often is featured on The Early Show on CBS. It was planned that Spencer would fill in for Mary Hart on Entertainment Tonight.

Viewers were in for a surprise. Nancy O’Dell appeared again on Entertainment Tonight to fill in for Hart.

In December of 2009, O’Dell still had two years left in her contract on Access Hollywood. She co-hosted the show with Billy Bush.

However, she quit her job. She did not know at the time that E! was interested in her. Mary Hart will leave Entertainment Tonight in the spring. Spencer and Linda Bell Blue were thought to be the frontrunners in replacing Hart.

However, it was revealed that CBS head executive Le Moonves was the one who wanted O’Dell. Moonves believed that O’Dell had more celebrity contacts than any of the other candidates for the job.

O’Dell is happy to be taking the new position, as she was ready for change.

She reportedly became frustrated working on Access, as she stated that people would approach her in airports singing her name and the theme song.

Looks like things worked out for O’Dell, as she will be the permanent replacement for Hart when she leaves Entertainment Tonight.
