MTV VMAs Ratings : Chelsea Handler VMAs Ratings Record – The MTV Video Music Awards had huge ratings, which also boosted the ratings for Chelsea Handler at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The award show had a lot of hype surrounding it, with performances by Kanye West and Taylor Swift on tap. Last year, Kanye West interrupted Swift on stage when she was receiving the first award of her career, taking the microphone from her and stating in front of the crowd that he believed that Beyoncé Knowles should have won the award, Kanye is notoriously known for not accepting the choices of the powers that be at award shows, but his brazen actions last year helped the network out this year as fans eagerly anticipated seeing him perform.
The Video Music Awards show saw a 27 percent hike in their ratings from a year ago. MTV utilized a number of social networking services to help them promote their award show. A number of stars Tweeted before the show started, reminding fans to tune in.
The performances this year were some of the most high profile in the history of the show. Eminem took to the stage, but gave a performance that was a little more lackluster than the performances that he had previously given at the annual awards show.
Thanks to the high ratings, Viacom saw their shares rise 79 cents to $34.55 today. Without any drama to help them promote their show next year, it will be interesting to see if they see a ratings drop.*Sponsored Links*
