Mike and Molly TV Show – New CBS Sitcom – Pilot Of Molly Flynn TV Series

Mike and Molly TV Show – New CBS Sitcom – Pilot Of Molly Flynn TV Series – A new sitcom, “Mike and Molly”, shows the lighter, funnier side of being a heavier set person in a rather romantic and sweet way, with plenty of laughs along the way.

The pilot was directed by James Burrows and written by Mark Roberts.

Police Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) and fourth-grade teacher Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy) are two plus sized characters who meet while at Overeaters Anonymous, where they use a stand-up comedic like approach to tell their stories about their struggles with eating and weight.

What sets these two apart is they are good role models for plus-sized people, as the pair enjoy life, have a laugh, and they don’t allow their weight to push them into a corner, hiding. While the pair may like to be thinner, their weight isn’t the end of the world, and it doesn’t cause them to feel down and depressed.

Molly’s mother, Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz), is the type of character usual to sitcoms. She is portrayed as good hearted, but kind of ignorant and out of touch with the realities of life. Speaking to Victoria (Katy Mixon), Joyce suggests taking Molly “to one of those lesbian clubs. They seem to like the beefy gals.”

Billy’s partner, Officer Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson) rounds out the small cast, and as a character he helps to support Mike by telling him to go for what he wants in his life, such as Molly. Unlike some shows, which may have the partner mocking his larger friend, Carl is very much a good friend of Mike, and shows respect, treating Mike with dignity.

Overall, Mike and Molly brings a lot of laughter but the cast seems too small to carry the whole thing in the long run. The writers will have to either add other characters to the show or integrate Molly’s sister and mother better. Their lines are kind of light and bring little to the whole comedic experience at the moment.
