Martin Bashir Leaving ABC Nightline For NBC Dateline:Bill Weir Replaces Bashir – Martin Bashir is leaving his post at “Nightline” to be an anchor for NSNBC and a contributor to “Dateline NBC.” It is an interesting move, as NBC has been having ratings problems as of late. He will anchor a daily afternoon program and will also report on “Dateline.”
In an email to his former co-workers, he said that he plans to work both daily and long-form journalism at his new job, which is what Bashir is obviously more interested in. The President for MSNBC, Phil Griffin, said that Bashir will fit right in with what they want him to be, and said that he is “smart, original, and thoughtful.”
Bashir came under fire after he released a documentary about Michael Jackson. Bashir had become friends with Michael, and then released a documentary about him without telling him how negatively he would be portrayed in the documentary.
Previously, Bashir had worked on “20/20,” and by all accounts had a very successful run with them. Previous to that, the London-born journalist received attention for his documentaries, most prominently “Living With Michael Jackson.” He also had an exclusive interview with Princess Diana in 1995, which is when he first came into the national spotlight.
It will be interesting to see how Bashir fits into his new role with the company. It is his goal to be the best at what he does, and MSNBC will give him a chance to really spread his wings and see what he can bring to the table.
Bill Weir will be replacing Bashir on ABC.*Sponsored Links*
