After months of professional drama, things are finally looking up for Kelly Ripa. The actress turned television host was named executive producer on the ABC show Live!, formerly Live With Kelly and Michael. The news comes months after her former co-host, Michael Strahan, left the program for a new gig on Good Morning America.
Ripa was not happy with Strahan’s sudden exit and engaged in some tense exchanges with her bosses. Her new promotion looks like an effort for them to try to smooth things down a bit. Since Strahan left in May, a permanent co-host was not hired despite rumors linking people like Alec Baldwin, Anderson Cooper, and Rob Lowe to the post. Fred Savage, a fan favorite, is also often associated with the gig.
The 45-year-old mother of three revealed this week that she is looking for a viewer, who can be a guest-host on an upcoming episode. Ripa explained:
“Now it’s time to put your mouths where your thumbs are. I’m building a co-host empire.”
This is a unique opportunity for people on social media, who like to tell Ripa that her job is easy. The TV host reads their comments, and it is time for them to back up the talk with some action.
Most commenters are not exactly thrilled with the idea; they said other programs had tried it, and the result rarely works. Rosewood actor Morris Chestnut is the guest-host for this week.*Sponsored Links*
