happy new year charlie brown review

Happy New Year Charlie Brown – “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” aired this evening on ABC.In short the classic animated special focused on Charlie Brown who is desperately trying to skip out of a big Year end party with the rest of the gang in order to read “War and Peace.” Here is a summary of the film:

Charlie Brown is looking forward to Christmas vacation, until his teacher assigns the class to read “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy over the Christmas Holiday, and then write a book report on it.

As Charlie finally settles down to try and read the book, Peppermint Patty calls to invite him to a New Year’s party. Almost everyone is planning to go, and Lucy enrolls their friends in a dance class, to learn how to dance properly.

Wanting to finish the book and attend the party, Charlie Brown goes to a local store, hoping to find “War and Peace” in another form. He requests to see if it is in comic book, record, tape, cassette, computer game, or film strip form. He is saddened to find that it is not.

Going home to continue reading, Charlie gets as far as the fifth page, before getting curious as to everyone else at the dance class. Hoping to just stop and look in, Peppermint Patty gets Charlie onto the dance floor, and the rest of his afternoon is taken away from the book report.

Charlie continues to try and read the next day, but is called by Peppermint Patty, hinting to him that she wants him to invite her to the party. Charlie mistakes this, and thinks of inviting the Little Red-Haired girl, causing Patty to angrily hang up on him.

That’s all we have for now on Happy New Year Charlie Brown.
