Greta Van Susteren Apology:Maxine Waters Shirley Sherrod Photo Mix-up

Greta Van Susteren Apology:Maxine Waters Shirley Sherrod Photo Mix-up – Greta Van Susteren is not the type to be easily rattled. However, she was on her blog last night apologizing profusely for an on-air mistake that she had made earlier in the day.
She was reporting on Representative Maxine Waters, who is a California Democrat who has been accused by the House of ethics violations. During the report, Fox News showed a picture of Shirley Sherrod, another African American woman who has made news in recent days.
Sherrod had been asked to step down from her position with the Department of Agriculture following a republican blog releasing a video showing Sherrod talking about being apprehensive to help White farmers over black farmers earlier in her career. Officials did not take into account that the film may have been edited and taken out of context when they asked her to step down. It soon came out that the video had indeed been taken out of context, and that the white farmer that Sherrod discussed in her speech was someone that she had become personal friends with and had helped for many years.

The mistake is a small one, but civil rights groups would certainly use it as some sort of evidence that the station has some racist tendencies in their reports.
“We really don’t know what to say and there is nothing that you can post to make us feel better (not that we deserve to feel better!),” Van Susteren blogged. “This mistake was bad, very bad and we are immensely sorry.”
