It’s like a news anchor feeding frenzy out there as more news regarding network anchor people leaving their posts are pouring in as the industry is ready to say goodbye to CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric.
News is that Meredith Vieira of the Today show is planning to leave and hot on her heels may be her co-host Matt Lauer. Not to mention that news broke that talk show host Glenn Beck is leaving Fox News too.
This new wave of news people moving on to greener pastures follows the unprecedented departure several years ago of the top three network anchormen, Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Peter Jennings from their decades long stints on CBS, NBC, and ABC respectively. All three left for different reasons however.
Some of these news celebs are leaving for personal reasons, others like Couric are leaving because ratings dropped and continued to stay low as is the situation with Glenn Beck. However, Matt Lauer seems to be more interested in a venue that keeps him near his wife and children.
The news business can be a grueling one. Tradition and history has shown us this time and again. Pile on the constant attacks from critics, the hazards of the job with field reporting and it’s no wonder why some might want to move on. The big questions now is who will replace these newspeople? Maybe they should have an “American Idol” version for prospective candidates.*Sponsored Links*
