My wife and I are so happy to learn that “Drop Dead Diva” has been renewed for a second season.

The best comedy, I believe, combines humor, humanity, and a more serious, ethical purpose. With the ending of “Boston Legal” and the final episodes of “Monk,” we felt that nothing on TV quite substituted for them until some fortunate channel surfing turned up the initial episode of “Drop Dead Diva.” Furthermore, we were delighted to find that the series did not rest content on its clever premise but continued to broaden its potential, becoming ever richer in its humor, its characterization, and its humane social intent.

    Love long and prosper!

    Tom and Louise

I love this show. The finale was different, there is so much that Jane does not know about Jane and for a husband to pop up..where has he been? And why doesn’t the assistant know about him?

It appears that the writers have a talent of avoiding any sort of plot-movement. When I say “writers,” I mean that a new writer was literally hired for each individual episode. The edit undo/redo button has been utilized on a whole new virtual level in this show. Let’s do a quick recap: Jane wants to be with Grayson. Grayson wants to be with Kim. Oh wait, now Grayson does not want to be with Kim. Oh wait, now Jane wants to be with Tony. Just kidding, Grayson dreams about Jane. And then of course there’s my favorite development with the character “Fred.” Perhaps the decision to involve him in the show is based on a “flip a coin” turnout. Alright, that does it, Fred is in, heads calls it! Oh wait, send him back to heaven, tails says so!

And the paradigm of brilliance of course resonates in the ending five seconds of the season finale. The logical explanation is that the thirteenth hired writer left the script lying on the couch, after attempting to understand what the heck has happened the entire season. His little daughter stumbles along, and pencils in, “Jane’s husband knocks at the door!” Every girl has to have a husband Daddy. Good work!

I didn’t like how the finale ended. Who the heck it that guy who claims to be Jane’s husband. Won’t Jane know by now, if she was married. Her mom I’m sure would have mentioned it on her visit and Terry she would have definitely told her. Even what’s his name her guardian angel Fred. Do you think he would have left that information out? The only mention of a relationship before her accident was with the guard. Oh come on people, hope there’s a very good explanation for his sudden appearance.

God forbid the writers should have her go on a diet so she’d have some shot of getting her guy..She looks as though she gained another 50 lbs over the course of the show !!
The Paula Abdul court scene was absolutely inane…Show is cute but this last one is an insult to anyone in the legal profession.

I LOVE the show!! The last episode drove me nuts! What a way to end the season. I can’t wait for the next season. This has to be one of the most suspenseful endings I’ve seen! Talk about leaving you hanging. I hope it doesn’t take long for it to start again.

WOW…LOVE THIS SHOW…Love the ending too..just enough mystery about what Jane will be doing when it comes back. CANT WAIT.

Love this show and all the characters especially the main character, Brooke Elliott. She is amazing! Margaret Cho is awesome, too.

Thanks Lifetime, Executives whoever for bringing this show back for Season 2. No more REALITY or DRAMA TV.

Also, I’m in awe with this husband on the Season Finale WHY wouldn’t Jane’s mom mention her husband. Can’t wait to see what transpires in #2? Don’t wait too long to bring the show back, please.

What a season finale…I am sure he must her ex-husband…:)

  16. Mary | Oct 12, 2009 | Reply

Seriously Jo Ann? Why would someone as brilliant and beautiful as Jane (Brooke Elliott)need to lose weight to get her man? Looks like she’s doing fine the way she is! I would worry less about the show being an insult to the attorney biz and more about your attitude towards fat (yes I said fat) people. The show is about acceptance and I don’t see any acceptance in your comment. Hard as it is for someone like you to understand, Fatties get their man as well! (usually more than the skinny girls actually)

First off I LUV THIS SHOW! now my thoughts on the finale… it was a shocker. Jane has a husband. she’s no longer working at the law firm(sp?) and FRED WASN’T THERE *cries* the weird thing is… if Jane had a husband wouldn’t he come when Jane got shot…oh right I forgot Jane alloped(sp?) in vegas lol… yea luvs the show! I wonder… how many 13 year olds watch this ’sides me? lol

  18. Mary | Oct 12, 2009 | Reply

I agree with some of the earlier posts that the plot is a tad erratic. is that just an urban rumor about a new writer for each show? But I kinda liked the end. I imagine the guy is actually Jane’s ex-husband, probably a loser and a mooch and she’s been avoiding him. This is just supposition, but that would explain why her mother didn’t mention anything about Jane having a husband in the wings. Then again, maybe the writers don’t talk to you each other, because as she seemed to suggest that Jane didn’t get many dates. But, let’s face it, it keeps us guessing and looking forward to the next season. Thanks Lifetime for a terrific series and a terrific cast. Personally, I think Grayson is a bit of a drip, so my vote’s for Tony. Re the snarky remarks about Jane getting fatter, I don’t think that’s the case, and even it were true, it’s a bit more real than America Ferrara in “Ugly Betty” being described as “fat” and “a big girl” and she’s a size 4-6. As a phat girl I find the concept that abundant Americans, who also happen to be female, and who hold high-level positions are somehow regarded as lesser beings (sorry about the pun) in the modern workplace. Wake up and smell the croissants, writers, it just ain’t so.

Awesome!!!!!!!! To all the negative responses…..Turn it off and watch something else. This is entertainment.

I love this show and am in total agreement with Tom and Louise. We are watching the characters grow in their understanding of human values. The story moves along like real life. Normally plots like real life are boring to me, but this one works. If Jane/Deb ends up with Grayson, I will see that as a little bit cheesy. She is becoming a whole new person and she needs to move on from that past relationship IMO.

As for 13-year-olds: Brooklyn I commend you. I think this show is too mature for most 13-year-olds to enjoy.

As for Jane going on a diet: Hello to you from Mr. Roll Eyes. And no Self Defense involved as I’ve been a fitness nut since I hit puberty very many moons ago before your parents were born.

By the way, I don’t know if this information is “Out There” yet, but my husband found out directly from an inside source that Fred will be back.

I am disappointed that no one so far mentioned the wonderful way that the breast cancer lawsuit was handled. Prejudice toward women with breast cancer not being sexy and discriminated against in the fashion world was tackled head-on and Stacie showed that she may be naive but is not dumb at all… so lots of stereotypes blown out of the water all at once. That one part of the episode would keep me watching if nothing else… and there is a LOT more to like about it. I do think the “husband” was probably some loser who latched onto Jane in college and she outsmarted him and forgot him a long time ago.

  22. Scarlett | Oct 13, 2009 | Reply

Love the show but hated the ending. It absolutely makes no sense that Jane is married- and he did say I’m Jane’s husband not ex-husband. I think that Jane leaving the firm and the Grayson dream would of been a sufficient ending. The Grayson dream should of been played up more, maybe they kiss like in the dream for example. There is no way that Jane’s mom or assistant would not of told her she is married. Especially with the assistant helping her with her memory, kinda seems like something you would not leave out!

What about all the other shows that poke fun at skinny woman, doctors, dumb blondes or construction workers….I bet you were not insulted by that!! No you were too busy laughing!! So what is the difference? Relax and laugh!! Take it in stride!!

this show is the best!! I love all characters, but Kim and Fred, the least. Stacey is adorable and so over-the-top–even Margaret Cho is great, although do they ever have to work to make her p-l-a-i-n!!! “Jane” is the epitome of what we all wish our best friend was like-funny, smart, caring and not rail-thin! Please keep more seasons-can’t wait for Season 2!!!!

I absolutely adore this show. I think it is so much fun and yet deals with serious issues like the breast cancer case and Jane dealing with her own integrity in disclosing the truth about the baseball player’s lawsuit. I was so glad she did the right thing, it just makes me adore the character more. Can’t wait for season 2 !!!

I love the show! Does anyone know is Brooke is married in real life? And, to Anna Nomis, they DID show the kissing scene – it was in grayson’s dream. She has gorgeous clothes on the show – expecially the black dress with the gold chain on the sleeve. Does anyone know who designs the clothes??.

I think that is awful that you think that someone needs to be smaller than she is to get a guy. Shame on you. I love that she is the way she is and I think she is absolutely beautiful.

The “spouse” showing up out of the blue is not a new premise, but in this case, it did catch me by surprise. Why didn’t her mother say anything about it in her episode? I guess: Time will tell.

I love this show! Can’t wait for season 2. I was hoping it would be back. Seems all the good shows that deal with real issues get canned…i.e., Boston Legal, Commander in Chief, Judging Amy, even Monk is ending. Hope this one stays around. P.S. My theory on the husband: A loser who is either an ex that refuses to call himself that, or a loser she was married to who decided to just up and disappear, or maybe Jane thought he was dead? hmmm! And I think if Grayson did go for Jane it would just show that he really loved the person Deb was inside, not just who she was on the outside. The new Jane is still basically Deb on the inside, with a few tweaks. From the comments her assistant and her mother have made, personality wise, Jane may have been the shallow one, not Deb. Only time will tell. Hope we get to find out soon!!

I was hooked on each episode from beginning to end. I was sometimes busy during the time it aired on Sunday, so I would DVR. When my husband canceled my taping, I risked staying up late to watch the second showing. When the last episode was over, I resigned from watching T. V. on Sunday nights.
