I was horrified as I watched new “Design Star” Antonio prove his “design ability” by creating a space that looked like something a 15 year old skateboarding dude would put together. Home? Hardly. I shudder to think of what kind of woman would enjoy waking up to that bright red wall and another woman’s face looking down on the bed. Yuck. No living room? Again. Home? The bathroom looked like a hospital bathroom from the fifties. The kitchen was OK, but, missed the mark on being a truly good design. I grew weary really quickly of Antonio’s “bad a$s” persona on Design Star. It didn’t get any better on his own show. I understand he designed the house for himself, but it was still a gross display of low class, bad taste and poor design. I kept expecting him to pull out the black velvet paintings of Jesus and Elvis. I knew from the beginning, the way the two women judges were fawning over Antonio, and how he was forgiven or bragged on for things that others were kicked off for, that he would be the winner of Design Star. (Come on! Would you want to live with a living room with a flock of hot pink ducks?) I believe the entire show was a setup, and I will not watch next year’s competition. I am saddened by the direction HGTV has taken in the last 2 years. I am sick of people getting their own show because of their ability to be an a$s. Every other show is about some half-million dollar home on the real estate market, while the majority of people that had watched HGTV so faithfully are living in nice homes worth a fraction of that. I could care less whether multi-millionaires who spent $90,000 on their backyard remake got the most bang for their buck. I would really enjoy seeing shows about gardening in a manner other than just garden design. (A huge yuck to the landscape show with the “Joisey” guy with a bad attitude. Who needs it?) I miss the good old days of HGTV when the hosts were likeable, the subjects were interesting and the end results were something that inspired rather than revolted.

Love this show gives good ideas on room changes &design.Ihave only one thing to ask ,that is the plans for the tv cabnet with slideing mirrord doors please help before my girlfriend drives me nuts thank you &keep up the great shows Ill keep watching sinceraly tim &Sherry ph. 573 259 3747

Jennifer was pregnant this year….her new show premiered this week: Paint Over! She is shedding her baby lbs, and is still as vivacious and unique as always. She explains the whys and hows of her makeover rooms. The new show so far is a bit like Vern’s Deserving Design though.

I read all the above comments with much interest. Whatever you think of Jennifer, her design talent, art talent, etc., she did win the competition, and deserves a chance to have a show that was promised to her. I personally think that she was a breath of fresh air, but I also respect others opinions if they wished someone else had won. That is a most difficult competition, and each candidate works their hardest; to get through each episode at all, and still maintain ones sanity and sense of humor is a positive attribute in itself. The best to Jennifer, and I look forward to seeing her on her own HGTV show. I am looking forward to this years winner. Both designers have their own unique brand of design. I won’t be really disappointed in either one.

My understanding is that Jennifer turned up pregnant. So they did a special with her and postponed her new show until Fall (2009). I too really liked Mikey V., but there was a little gay porn scandal with him (an old movie he did suddenly turned up) and I presume that’s why he wasn’t asked back.

What happened to the expected 2008 Designstar winner’s show. Although I did see her in some sort of special and she was pregnant…..there has been no other word about her show. Please offer explanation.

We as viewers watched with anticipation and feel somewhat betrayed and disappointed.

When I started watching HGTV,there were so many great decorating shows. I really got great ideas but now there isn’t much to watch to get ideas for decorating.You do have candice Olson, who is wonderful. I realize most people can’t afford her designs,but you can get ideas. Showing how you can take an expensive room do it for less was such a great show too. The better shows are on early in the day, but they all repeats from a couple of years ago. I really don’t know how they keep going in the direction they are. As I said I once watched every evening and now only watch if nothing else is on other networks.

Okay… I hear ya Sara, section 8, funny. I realize it’s called “Design Star”, however I’m honestly tired of everything on HGTV being about “Design” only. I’m a Carpenter, Painter, and have an eye for design. I would absolutely LOVE to watch a show that focuses a tad more on the carpentry of the rooms. It’s an art of it’s own, that is commonly overlooked on these shows and in the workforce in general. How many times do you hear “and we’re goin to build some cabinets for organization…”, and then BAMM, the cabinets magically appear. Do you know how much work, cuts, and precision actually goes into a good set of cabinets? Not to mention TIME. Anyway, I have high hopes for a different show this year, I’m hoping for Antonio.

I understand the TV judges will select the winner to host an HGTV program while the TV viewers will vote on the contestant to host an online program.
