why wasn’t Mikey V. part of the final show of Design Star? No one ever said. I loved that guy!

I agree- Mikey V should have won. Oh well, one less show I have to watch. Last year’s winner and her show are terrible.

Besides…all of your cruel remarks show ignorance and a lack of class. I figured she’d win way before she did. Remember he was the one who froze up on his design room….freaked out actually. You simply can’t do that and hold title as a star.

I dont know about all of you design star watchers, but something isnt quite right here. The previous winners were getting months of promos about their winter/spring show and nothing has appeared on HGTV about Jen Bertrand’s show. What’s going on with this. Jen has he talent and personality to pull these shows off. Still no one can beat David Bromstad!!

Does anyone know why Jennifer did a “tv special” and not begin hosting her own show like the two previous winners? I saw her on Showdown tonight and no comment was made about an upcoming series ……

I also am very interested in why we haven’t seen a show with Jennifer?? I thought it was suppose to air in Jan. 2009. What happened??? I loved her in “Design Star” and was thrilled she won! I thought she would do a great show. I also agree with Hamilton about David Bromstad…he’s awesome and Kim Myles is good, too. Come on, Jennifer!!!

What happened?

I’ve been wondering too! What happened to Jennifer Bertrand–and her show–please somebody tell us.
jaye | Jul 2, 2009 | Reply
Apparently she’s not going to have a weekly show from what I gathered on the HGTV website. They only list her as having a 1hr show , which was already aired and on- line videos demonstrations. Besides that she will be on a design show challenge. I guess that means her hr show wasn’t a hit and they didn’t pick her up for a series. If anyone finds out anything different, please post.

I too was wondering what happened to Jenifer Bertrand. I thought having a design show on Hgtv was part of the prize for winning Design Star. Is she going to have a design Show?

I picked this up from the HGTV site blog. Someone else said she had a baby and that’s why it was postponed.

According to last Saturday’s Denver Post:
HGTV casting call
High Noon Productions, based in Centennial, is looking for homeowners to participate in a new show hosted by “HGTV Design Star” Season 3 winner Jennifer Bertrand. The show will air this fall and will focus on home makeovers for families in transition from such events as merging households, taking in an elder, becoming a single parent or surviving a life-altering event. Eligible homeowners should live in or near Denver, feel comfortable sharing their story, have two spaces they’d like transformed, and be available and enthusiastic. Interested? E-mail your story and contact information to cbaggish @highnoonentertainment .com or call 303-712-3093.

I am SOOO glad HGTV changed the way the “design star’s” are selected this year. The judges (who actually know what good design is) will pick the winner. Season one was great but after that it turned into a “reality show” circus. Kim Myles was a good decorator but not a designer, Jennifer, well, I will be kind and keep quiet about her. Needless to say, I thought she was a huge mistake. Enough so that HGTV changed the show. Good call! I thought she was a good artist if you like silly art but a designer, paleeeeeeeeze. Like the other poster said “just one less show I have to watch.”

Have just spent the last 20 minutes reading the comments posted. I also looked for Jennifer’s new show and found two comments on the HGTV site. First, Jen had a baby in Feb ‘09. The economy is the second….
Hummmm, I like Jen but do believe what most say about her being an artist more than a designer. Ane after dealing with the “I can make a silk purse out of a grocery bag” winner from the 2007 season this past year, I wish Matt would be given a chance to do some specials and work into a show of his own. He really impressed me with his over all talent.

I just googled this question as I wondered what happened to her show, but not because I was really excited about it…it’s more or less like road kill to me, just tuning in to see what would be the next lame excuse for a show they come up with. I never thought she was really a qualified person to have a weekly TV show and was not duly impressed with too many of them anyway. I think the real stars are few and far between, really. They are all a notch above amateurs with a bit of a knack if you don’t mind my honest opinion.

Has anyone noticed that this season they are saying the Design Star “winner” will get an “online show”, not a real tv show? What a bummer. And I never saw a show for Jen either…whether you like her or not, it seems unfair she was promised a show and then it did not materialize.

I agree, I did not think that Kym Miles was a good choice. Also, they give her nothing to work with in terms of money so it’s like she cruises the suburbs to see who left something out on the drive way to be picked up for the trash the next day to see what she can reupholster with baggy horrid fabrics. The paint is horrid and looks like off shades found in the bad remix cart at the paint store. HGTV used to have something for everyone, not just people who think they can decorate a whole house with $500 to tops $2000. There used to be great shows on in the beginning now it’s all either real estate for ex-pats or real estate for people who are delusional or now even renters? Get real, another real estate show. What happened to the more upscale shows? If I see anther episode of Design on a Dime or Decorating Cents where they turn a perfectly good bedroom into an Easter Egg den,……. Also, all that effort and building with found items for something that looks like crap and people wouldn’t put in their cow barn. It’s upsetting this is passing for an interior design network. If they are that self conscious about being mindful of the poor who want to decorate they should rename their network to section 8 housing design. I see they are moving in that direction with Deserving Design. Nice, but as interior design inspiration? Maybe they could do that on Queen for a Day. Also, why must you be in a biracial relationship to be featured on this show? Or a gay couple to have your house featured? Good grief, interior design that is “message-y” . We get it, be “t-o-l-e-r-a-n-t….” now move on to show us some really great interior design by real professionals.

I understand that the judges will choose the winner of an HGYV program while the TV viewers will vote on the contestant to host the online program.

Okay… I hear ya Sara, section 8, funny. I realize it’s called “Design Star”, however I’m honestly tired of everything on HGTV being about “Design” only. I’m a Carpenter, Painter, and have an eye for design. I would absolutely LOVE to watch a show that focuses a tad more on the carpentry of the rooms. It’s an art of it’s own, that is commonly overlooked on these shows and in the workforce in general. How many times do you hear “and we’re goin to build some cabinets for organization…”, and then BAMM, the cabinets magically appear. Do you know how much work, cuts, and precision actually goes into a good set of cabinets? Not to mention TIME. Anyway, I have high hopes for a different show this year, I’m hoping for Antonio.

When I started watching HGTV,there were so many great decorating shows. I really got great ideas but now there isn’t much to watch to get ideas for decorating. You do have candice Olson, who is wonderful. I realize most people can’t afford her designs, but you can get ideas. Showing how you can take an expensive room do it for less was such a great show too. The better shows are on early in the day, but they all repeats from a couple of years ago. I really don’t know how they keep going in the direction they are. As I said I once watched every evening and now only watch if nothing else is on other networks.

What happened to the expected 2008 Designstar winner’s show. Although I did see her in some sort of special and she was pregnant…..there has been no other word about her show. Please offer explanation.
We as viewers watched with anticipation and feel somewhat betrayed and disappointed.
Rad | Aug 23, 2009 | Reply
My understanding is that Jennifer turned up pregnant. So they did a special with her and postponed her new show until Fall (2009). I too really liked Mikey V., but there was a little gay porn scandal with him (an old movie he did suddenly turned up) and I presume that’s why he wasn’t asked back.

I read all the above comments with much interest. Whatever you think of Jennifer, her design talent, art talent, etc., she did win the competition, and deserves a chance to have a show that was promised to her. I personally think that she was a breath of fresh air, but I also respect others opinions if they wished someone else had won. That is a most difficult competition, and each candidate works their hardest; to get through each episode at all, and still maintain ones sanity and sense of humor is a positive attribute in itself. The best to Jennifer, and I look forward to seeing her on her own HGTV show. I am looking forward to this years winner. Both designers have their own unique brand of design. I won’t be really disappointed in either one.

Jennifer was pregnant this year….her new show premiered this week: Paint Over! She is shedding her baby lbs, and is still as vivacious and unique as always. She explains the whys and hows of her makeover rooms. The new show so far is a bit like Vern’s Deserving Design though.

I was horrified as I watched new “Design Star” Antonio prove his “design ability” by creating a space that looked like something a 15 year old skateboarding dude would put together. Home? Hardly. I shudder to think of what kind of woman would enjoy waking up to that bright red wall and another woman’s face looking down on the bed. Yuck. No living room? Again. Home? The bathroom looked like a hospital bathroom from the fifties. The kitchen was OK, but, missed the mark on being a truly good design. I grew weary really quickly of Antonio’s “bad a$s” persona on Design Star. It didn’t get any better on his own show. I understand he designed the house for himself, but it was still a gross display of low class, bad taste and poor design. I kept expecting him to pull out the black velvet paintings of Jesus and Elvis. I knew from the beginning, the way the two women judges were fawning over Antonio, and how he was forgiven or bragged on for things that others were kicked off for, that he would be the winner of Design Star. (Come on! Would you want to live with a living room with a flock of hot pink ducks?) I believe the entire show was a setup, and I will not watch next year’s competition. I am saddened by the direction HGTV has taken in the last 2 years. I am sick of people getting their own show because of their ability to be an a$s. Every other show is about some half-million dollar home on the real estate market, while the majority of people that had watched HGTV so faithfully are living in nice homes worth a fraction of that. I could care less whether multi-millionaires who spent $90,000 on their backyard remake got the most bang for their buck. I would really enjoy seeing shows about gardening in a manner other than just garden design. (A huge yuck to the landscape show with the “Joisey” guy with a bad attitude. Who needs it?) I miss the good old days of HGTV when the hosts were likeable, the subjects were interesting and the end results were something that inspired rather than revolted.
