David Conrad Ghost Whisperer Jim Dies:Spoiler
David Conrad Ghost Whisperer Jim Dies:Spoiler – David Conrad who played Jim in Ghost Whisperer has died in the show tonight. Here is David Conrad aka Jim ’s interview wit TV Guide about the death of his character.
TV Guide: Rumors have been swirling that Jim, your character, is about to die and become one of those ghosts who constantly bother Melinda. I know you can’t spoil it, but what can you tell fans about what happens to Jim?
David Conrad: I think they’ll see a Jim like they’ve never seen before. I think he’ll find out who his true self is, though it might take a long time. That’s cryptic.
TV Guide: So there is some sort of event that changes his fate?
Conrad: [Thoughtfully] Well, Jim kind of blacks out… there’s a strange blackout. And some-times, by forgetting, when you do re-member, you know things all the more. Like, people might say, “Oh, I forgot how much I love my wife.” And then time goes by, and they realize just how much more they loved her, and at what cost.
TV Guide: As an actor, is the new story line going to be exciting to play?
Conrad: Yeah. It may bring out a muscle that I’ve never used before. It’s going to be a completely new world for him. He’s gonna wake up with new eyes — almost as if he’s seeing things through someone else’s eyes.
TV Guide: Have you known for a while that something big was coming?
Conrad: I was told in the first season that something big was coming for me. [Laughs] Early on, the rumor was that I wouldn’t make it past Season 1. But somehow I ended up here, in my fourth one.
TV Guide: Do you have any sense of Jim’s long-term future on the show?
Conrad: None, which is actually cool. Before, I saw this endless plain of being the supportive husband. And now I don’t know what the hell’s going to happen.
TV Guide: Jim’s such a good guy, but over the years, did you ever find yourself thinking, “I’m sick of being calm and supportive — can’t I be skeptical and cranky for a change?”
Conrad: [Nods] Yeah. I got really tired of that. But that’s the dynamic. Maybe it’s part of what’s so exciting about what’s coming up, because things change quite a bit. Before, it could get exhausting spending that much time doing nothing, significantly. Sometimes you think, “Hey, let’s do a story about me.” But, you know, the show is called Ghost Whisperer; it’s not called Husband.
TV Guide: Maybe you and Jake Weber from Medium could get together for a spin-off.
Conrad: [Laughs] I’d love to. I think Jake’s a great actor. I was just watching him speak German in some terrible movie about subma-rines. But he’s so good.
TV Guide: Have you guys ever compared notes?
Conrad: I’ve never met Jake. We went to the same school, Juilliard. We’re both “married” to mediums. But we’ve never met.
TV Guide: OK, let’s switch topics. You’re a former competitive swimmer. Did you watch Michael Phelps over the summer?
Conrad: [Enthused] I did — I watched endless hours of the Olympics online. And then I started swimming again before the Olympics, and I really started finding the joy again. I haven’t swum competitively since high school, but it’s nice, later in my life, to rediscover that.
TV Guide: How seriously are you swimming now?
Conrad: I’m thinking about trying to find a masters swimming program. What I do now is, I’ll go to a public pool, and there’ll be a little swim team practicing in three lanes. I’ll get in the lane next to them and try to run with them. And often, the little 13-year-olds are destroying me. But once in a while I can keep up, so that’s fun.
TV Guide: If this season is the end for your char-acter, what will you do next?
Conrad: Hopefully I’ve saved enough money to move back East and live a very inexpensive lifestyle… just stop doing things that I don’t have my heart in. I hope I have the sense to just choose stuff in the remaining years of my actor life that I can really sink my teeth into.
TV Guide: During your first season on the show, you told us that at heart you were just a square from Pittsburgh, looking to settle down and have kids with a girl from your hometown. Well?
Conrad: That didn’t work out. You have dreams, but at a certain point you’ve got to realize what you’re best at, or what’s most natural. Yeah, family…I don’t think about it. [Laughs] Love kids, though. Still love ‘em.
TV Guide: So what’s the plan now?
Conrad: What I’d really like to do is just sell everything I own and travel. I don’t want to own any-thing. I don’t want a house, I don’t want paintings, I don’t want to collect anything. I really would just like to travel, and think, and write.
That’s all we have for now on David Conrad Ghost Whisperer Jim Dies:Spoiler.

If Jim dies I will never see the show again and that goes for a couple of my freinds. We made a pack.

If they’re really killing his character off then the writers have killed the show and I most likely will stop watching!

As Jim was a ghost in teh end of teh latest episode i wonder how many actually stop watching. I would like to know how they are going to play this out now! Jim(ghost) vanished before the end of the episode so i figure Mel may need to help cross him over?

Another fan not happy with this turn of events. Changing a show’s premise is very risky. Women watch this show, you know??

I hope they bring back Dr Payne. His Gary unmarried show is in a word, BAD!He was so much better in GW. The show is all about life’s changes and how Melinda helps others. It is not the JIM Show. One of the things I love about this show is that it does change. You never know whats going to happen and if you do miss a show you really do miss something! I was so glad they got the DVD out before the next season started as I had missed shows and needed to catch up.

No that Jim died I will not be watching anymore. What a stupid move for this show to make.

I know several people besides me cried like a baby when Jim died. This better be a dream!!! Ug – I’m soo mad. All the shows I like kill off all my favorite characters. I don’t want to meet new ones – I want to see just one happy couple live happily ever after!! JUST ONE! Leave Jim and Melinda alone! I realize this show is about death so we should expect it – but I’m sooo mad and disappointed! I’d rather they killed off Dr. Payne – he’s got his own show anyway.. .GGRRR!!!

Have their baby and continue.Helping others
Cant they save him.??Shock him bring him back.
Have his spirit go back into his body.
Not a good show now,It was good seeing two people so in Love.ALIVE!!!!

Are you kidding me?? Did he want off the show?
What about happily ever after? So now what another show about a single Mom raising her, let me guess little boy, just like Daddy? I can’t even watch anymore.

I really watched Ghost Whisperer for the interaction between Melinda and Jim. Now that he is dead, suspending reality completely is too much. I have watched my last episode.
Julie | Nov 13, 2008 | Reply
If Jim is indeed dead, I’m sending this show into the light of shows I used to watch. There are SO many other directions the writers could have pursued to give David Conrad (who, admittedly, has been WAY underused during his time on GW) more screen time…killing him off (and having him possess someone else? Puh-leeze!) is a prime example of stupidity and lazy writing. This show will be lucky if it makes it til the end of the current season if Jim isn’t revived!
Slink | Nov 13, 2008 | Reply
Good call. The Jim character was as dull and passionless as Jim’s and Melinda’s marriage. The best thing they could have done for the character was send him to the other side.
The writing for such a key scene was really pretty awful, though. I bet every cop watching the episode was yelling at their TVs while ol’ Barney Fife there was hiding behind that tree.
And it’s really too bad Jay Mohr couldn’t take on two shows at once.

I am very hopeful that in the next episode, at the end, she will wake up and it will all have been a dream. I agree with all of you…. that if they kill Jim, it will kill the show.
I love Jennifer Love Hewitt, but the dynamic between Mel and Jim is what makes the show great. It would be wonderful if JUST ONE SHOW could keep a great couple together.
If they actually do kill him, I am in agreement with everyone else, and I will probably stop watching.

One of the attractions of this show to me is the relationship between Melinda and Jim. My daughter and I have already decided if he’s killed off the show, we will not continue to watch it.
I wonder if this is the reason they introduced the new character who hears ghosts but can not sees them. His character needs A LOT more developing.
Denise DeMoss | Nov 13, 2008 | Reply
I agree with the majority of the folks who responded on this site. I really enjoyed Jim and Melinda – and appreciated his open support and understanding. He was her strength. It really stinks that he got killed. I also hope this is just a bad dream and will end with Jim back in the land of the living (and breathing).
Mari | Nov 14, 2008 | Reply
First they kill of her best friend and now Jim. They were her support group; the people that understood her and were there for her while Melinda does her thing for the other side.
Instead of killing off her 2 best support actors they should have come up with better story lines.
Bring back Jay Mohar!
I just do not see how they are going get her to cope either all alone or with a baby and all the ghosts.

My son & I watch it together every week, it’s our Friday night ritual. We were SO shocked that Jim actually died…we did NOT see it coming, hadn’t been ‘reading ahead’ or anything. We’re very dismayed at losing his character, whom we both like a lot. My son has said he will boycot the show when/if Jim leaves completely. Not sure that I will, but I am NOT happy about this!!

Same, if Jim stays dead. It will ruin the show for me as well.

I can’t believe that you killed off Jim. That was an amazingly stupid move on the show’s part. The chances of me watching the show again are slim. Stupid, stupid, stupid….

i just got done watching tonights i can’t believe that they went ahead and put jim in another body, that just wont work, nobody can take the place of conrad. if conrad wants more money then give it to him if he wants more of a role then give it to him. just don’t write him out or change the person.

This is ridiculous! The majority of Ghost Whisperer fans loves Jennifer Love Hewitt, but we equally love (if not more) David Conrad. It just isn’t fair to the devoted fans to kill him off. I know Ghost Whispere is only a show, but it is nice to be able to escape from the sometimes harsh realities of our life, to see a happy couple deal with what is around them. I look forward to this show and as my personal life crumbles, all I can say is I just have another reason to be unhappy.

Now that they’ve killed Jim, I took Ghost whisperer out of my DVR. He was the main reason I watched. I refuse to watch now, and hope the ratings tank. Nice move JLH.
Julie | Nov 18, 2008 | Reply
I am not pleased either that they knocked off Jim, Melinda’s main means of support and love. But, after all, this IS Sci-Fi. Bringing back Jim in a new body (aka reincarnation) just might work, and it could actually be interesting and very emotional as we watch “Jim” gain back his memories of his previous life with Melinda. Yes, it won’t be the same without Conrad as the actor, but I, for one, am going to stick it out to see what happens. The writers have told us that Melinda and Jim will “fall in love all over again” because it is actually Jim’s soul and very being that inhabits the new body and proves that love can really never die and that spirit and soul conquer flesh and blood. I can’t wait for the episode when he finally does remember all that happened and they are happy as a couple again. Then, then can make that baby they both wanted so badly.

OMG!! You people really did it this time! Killing off Melinda’s husband Jim was a really, really bad idea. I will not be watching the show anymore and neither will a bunch of my family and friends. Shame on you, you did a very, very bad thing.
Judie | Nov 22, 2008 | Reply
You guys ruinied the show. Even if Jim is in Sam’s body it is not Jim. It is not the same! Jim had friends, and was a Paramedic and his own personality. Now he’s unemployed? And how do you explain someone so in love with her husband now letting another man live with her. I think it stinks and can only hope Melinda wakes up on the side of Jim’s hospital bed and says “Jim I had this horrible dream that you died….”
Deborah | Nov 22, 2008 | Reply

I absolutely agree with you!!! I really hope Melinda is just having a very bad bad dream. Why not…they did it on Dallas and Bob Newheart.

Bring Jim back NOW!!! In his own body. We watch this show because we not only love Melinda, we also loved Jim and the fantasy of having a perfect husband like that. You destroyed it for all of us. We feel you are also destroying the show. FIX IT!!!

The first thing I’d like to address is the show that Jim actually dies in. HOW LAME! They have a cop shoot blindly into a house where the shadow of two people are struggling? So the cop shoots Jim because he’s in some emotional turmoil over his daughter, we come to find out later…? Why didn’t they just have the two guys struggling over the gun and one accidentally goes off and bye-bye Jim… Where’s the part where Jim’s family sues the Grandview Police Department for negligence and a wrongful death action?? Then the nurse informs Melinda that they have to “watch out for a possible brain aneurism?” Then Jim tells her that “it’s complicated.” How stupid… Jim is a paramedic.. You don’t think Melinda knows what that is?? Didn’t she ever talk to her husband about any of his cases, etc…? Okay, so anyway, he hops into the body of someone that looks a lot younger than he was by virtue of his “parents” arguing to take him back home with them… And, he’s not as attractive as Jim by no stretch… Also, if the actor David Conrad was going to stay on the show, why did they have to go through all this nonsense? So he can play a different guy? But, WE see Jim and so does Melinda, I think… Or, maybe she sees Sam? I’m not sure.. I thought they were killing off Jim’s character cause they wanted to bring back Jay Mohr, the professor. I thought Melinda and the Professor had some great chemistry and he is so funny too… He obviously had the hots for her… Maybe they will bring him back if his Gary show tanks.. You never know.
Okay so what’s with the guy who just “hears” ghosts? I’m not sure about that character. And, how come her friend, Delia, the consummate non-believer suddenly has a change of heart and believes her..? Yes, I know, cause Sam showed up at the basketball court for their 3:00 game.. I kind of liked Ned for her next sidekick. He has always believed.. Oh well, we’ll just have to see what’s in store with Sam and Melinda. But for me, I don’t like the new storyline. They really could have gone in a million other directions. Are we having another writer’s strike that I was unaware of??
Mary Wisdom | Jan 5, 2009 | Reply
I started watching with the first show and loved it. Then you killed off her friend! OK, I’ll go on watching. Then you do away with one of the best characters, the Professor. You’ve changed the story line each season like it wasn’t working at all!
NOW, there was the teaser about Jim possibly dying. I told myself if he did that would be my last episode to watch. And you did!
Did I stop watching? You bet I did! Then I see advertised that he’s coming back as a ghost! Give me a break! You had a good show and you’ve destroyed it for me. I’M GONE! BYE, BYE!

I personally haven’t watch my favorite show, Ghost Whisperer, since I realized Jim was truly dead. David Conrad is really a good looking guy and I’m so glad that evidently Melinda can see “JIM”, but no offense, the body Jim jumped into…well not so much. (Sorry fellow whoever you are). James Van Praagh, love ya man, but I’m out of here.

I cannot believe you took Jim off the show. I could not wait for Fridays to watch, I even stopped watching Medium for this because of Jim and Melinda and all the Love that was connected with those two and now we have to watch this ugly man in the mirror scenes take Jim’s place, how sickening.

True, it was a major shock to see Jim die. My jaw hit the ground and I was saying out loud, “NO!!!!” I kept hoping it was an awful dream sequence. I’m in Australia, so Jim only died last week and we are yet to see how this unfolds. I love David Conrad’s work on the show and will continue to watch it with or without him (with, would have been better *sigh*). I’m a big fan of the show and that won’t change. x

I used to watch this show all the time. I got caught up in schoolwork and missed the last couple of episodes, i walk in the room to get something and i see my mum watching GW i was about to yell at her for not telling me it was on but then i saw melinda at Jims funeral. JIMS BLOODY FUNERAL!! I miss a couple of episodes and my fave character is dead! I swear not to ever watch this show again.

What I’d like to know is how the writers are going to keep Jim in Jim’s body, now that they’ve stupidly killed him off in the show? And yes, I have every faith that they are going to keep Jim on because the revolt in fans and viewers would be astounding! But which body is he going to keep appearing to us on the show: Jim’s or Sam’s? No way would they be able to rise Jim’s rotting body from the dead for him to jump back into. And risking keeping him in Sam’s body for us to fans to “face” and accept is insulting! What were they thinking when they rolled the dice the night they decided to kill off Jim?!?!?! Aaaargh!

can anyone explain how he died?
who ever wrote this twist in the show you better get us Jim back and i dont care how either u make his rotton body jump frm the ground or make melinda wake up and get it all as a dream i dont care how but the only thing i knw is that jim gone me too!!

I’m from France, and I used to watch the show every week since 2007, when it started there. Today was the episode where Jim died… and we’ve cried so much, my friends and I, that we’ve decided not to watch the show anymore … it’s not interesting without Jim … ‘cuz the show was about Melinda AND Jim! he was always with her, he would always support her, he was so nice, so handsome … owing to me, they should have died together … I can that in france, every girl watchin’ the show ’till now’s gonna be very very disappointed. You did a very bad thing, by killing Jim Clancy -_-’
