Conan On 60 Minutes Slams Jay Leno – Conan O’Brien was a little more vocal than expected in his interview with 60 Minutes recently. Conan was ousted from his seat as the host of the Tonight Show several months ago, when Jay Leno’s show, “The Jay Leno Show” failed to see the ratings that the network had been hoping for. They decided the right course of action would be to place Leno back in the 11:30 time slot where Conan was sitting, and to move the Tonight Show back to midnight. This, obviously, did not sit well with Conan and his crew, and the team opted to pack up their bags instead of adhering to the demands of the network. In his severance, O’Brien was awarded a $30 million settlement. The contract for the settlement stipulated that Conan would not be allowed to make appearances on television for over 6 months, and could not host his own television show for nearly a year.
“He went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know — I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien, 47, said on 60 Minutes in his first interview since he left the Tonight Show on NBC.
In the interview Conan states that he would not have handed over the reigns to the show, only to take it back six months later after a new host had settled into the position.
Conan would add that “Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things.”
O’Brien recently announced that, as soon as his contract allows for it, it will be hosting his own talk show program on the cable network TBS. TBS is owned by Ted Turner, and previously had been most known for Braves games and the George Lopez talk show. It seems that the network will be receiving a new identity when Conan receives his talk show in September.
