His dream of being an American Idol winner may have ended without cracking the top 24 of contestants, but singer Chris Medina has already recorded a new song and his star continues to grow.
Mega producer Rodney Jenkins, like millions of American Idol viewers, was inspired by Medina’s story of how his fiancée was seriously injured in a car wreck just before they were to marry. Medina stayed with her and won many fans on Idol.
So Jenkins wrote “What are Words” for Medina and the singer wasted no time in recording a video of him singing the song.
“It’s a song about making promises and fulfilling them, about telling someone you love that you’ll be there and having them be able to count on you because you said it,” Medina told the PopEater website. “Because the words that you say really mean something. It’s a powerful song.”
Medina was scheduled to perform “What Are Words” Friday night on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
“That’s the biggest gig other than American Idol that I’ve ever been a part of,” Medina said. “I’m hoping to nail it.”
