Saturday Night Live – Season 36, Episode 7 which was hosted by Anne Hathaway and featured Florence + the Machine as musical guest aired last night on NBC. Here is the recap of the episode:
Cold Open: The Rachel Maddow Show
Another political open where Rachel Maddow interviewed John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi and embattled Rep. Charles Rangel in a very unfunny and forgettable way.
There was nothing comical about this skit other than the following line by Rangel:
“Rachel, in closing, I just want to say I’m proud to live in a country where a man like Charlie Rangel can be a congressman, and a 12-year-old boy like yourself can have his own TV show.”
Monologue: Anne Hathaway
This monologue should have been called – Do you know how easy it is to get Anne Hathaway naked?
The writers neglected to add few jokes in the sketch.
Message from TSA:
This was one of the funniest sketches of the night.
In the fake sexy ad – people who are lonely during the holiday season are advised to asked for a personal patdown from a TSA worker at the airport.
The Miley Cyrus Show
For the second time in a row Vanessa Bayer’ Miley Cyrus made an appearance to talk her life, her dad and to interview Hathaway as Katie Holmes which was not very convincing.
The skit was below average and having Miley Cyrus playing Sharon Stone in “Basic Instinct was beyond creepy.
The very funny Kristen Wiig stepped out as Penelope to drive everyone insane.
This might be old but it is still funny.
Visiting the Queen:
This was another hilarious skit about Prince William taking Kate Middleton to meet Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip who turned out to be secret hooligans.Armisen has us rolling on the floor in the role of the Queen.
Musical Guest: Florence + the Machine performed “Dog Days Are Over” and “You’ve Got the Love,” of their the album “Lungs.”
The Update was packed this evening with Jay Pharoah’s Jay-Z, Drake and Notorious BIG pretty hilarious Thanksgiving rap.
Seth Myers had a brilliant segment called “Come On, Dictionary” where he blasted The New Oxford Dictionary’s decision to make Sarah Palin’s word “refudiate” Word of the Year.
Chris Hunter, a creator of Four Loko also made an appearance to talk about his new product called the organ blaster.
Wizard of Oz Weathervane/The Wizard of Oz
This unfunny skit revealed that there was almost a fifth character in The Wizard of Oz that you’ve never heard about.
Despite the lack of jokes, we have to admit the costumes were amazing.
Herb Welch, News Reporter:
Bill Hader played Herb Welch a very old reporter who had difficulties conducting an interview and spent half the time hitting people with a microphone.
Mega-Mart Black Friday
This crazy fake ad for Mega Mart’s Black Friday was dangerously funny.
There’s a new way to stop to stop camel toe before it suddenly appears – just wearing something that looks like a small penis and you are set to go.
Horse Play :
Another old skit that is starting to lose it magical touch.
Overall it was a pretty entertaining episode of SNL thanks to Anne Hathaway’s acting skills.
Let us hope the writers keep it up.
